Change – why is it so difficult?

Because it is moving away from what we know, even if it is deciding to exercise more, eat less or quit smoking.

Many theories have been developed about change, but the one that sticks with me is Motivational Interviewing by William R. Miller (www.williamrmiller.net/motivationalinterviewing.html).

Change isn’t something that happens easily, but try this simple recipe which requires the following ingredients:

YOU: be open to change and commit to it (f.x. by telling a friend about it)

YOUR FRIEND: listen empathetically and ask ‘so how are you going to make this happen?’.

This simple way will force you to commit to actions that will drive the motivation, responsibility and buy-in you need to succeed.
